A 5 Step Guide to Self-Storage

Self Storage, Mini Storage, Secure Storage in Ft. Worth TexasSelf-storage has become increasingly popular in recent years as a means to store belongings that you do not need on a day-to-day basis. If you find yourself lacking in space to store all your personal belongings, then renting a self-storage unit could be a viable option that caters for your needs. Self-storage companies provide cheap, flexible storage space to give you the room you need. Here is a simple 5-step guide of how to go about externally storing your items.

1)  Measure the items you wish to store.

Before deciding what size storage unit to use you must first of course know the measurements of the items you wish to store, in order to make sure you don’t pay for space you do not need. Some self-storage companies will have, in some sort of form, a size estimator on their websites for you to use to calculate, albeit roughly, how much space you will need to rent. If you think perhaps you do not have enough belongings you wish to store to make storage worth your while, you’ll be surprised how flexible storage companies can be – many will let you rent just a little bit of space for an extremely low price.

2)  Get suitable packing and protecting material.

Once you know all the items you wish to store, you must then get vessels and containers to store your loose belongings in, as well as protection measures to ensure they do not get dusty. To store you lose items, durable plastic containers is the best option, but cardboard boxes are the most economic. What you chose will largely depend on your circumstances. As for protection against dust, moving blankets do the job perfectly.

3)  Shop around and get quotes.

Like with almost every other industries, comparison sites for self-storage companies can be found online. They compare price, level of security, opening hours and certain other aspects that will help you to decide which service, as well as informing you where the nearest storage complex is to you. If you are planning to store some expensive or sentimental belongings, then it may be smart storing them in a facility that has the most up-to-date security systems – alarms, fences, CCTV, locks, 24/7 security staff etc. – even if it costs a little extra.

4)  Pick the right type of lease.

Some storage companies will give you a discount if you pay for a few months upfront. This can be very appealing if you wish to store your items for a long time, maybe even indefinitely. However, if you are not planning to store them there for long, then the rolling week-by-week rental option will probably be the right one for you.

5)  Check the Reputation of the Company

If you’ve decided on a self-storage complex – the one that gives you the right balance of space, security, price, location and accessibility – then the final stage is to check their reputation. This can be done through the internet, where websites exist whose purpose is it to scrutinize the services provided by companies, such as self-storage ones. If the feedback all seems, good then your ready to go.

Great Experience

I rented a unit for over a year and had an incredible experience. I am only leaving because I am moving. Terri and team are very helpful and proactive. They had deliveries taken to my unit which is essential. Terri called me when a delivery came so I would know. Great customer service!

Great Storage Facility!!!

Our Virginia Cook Realtor, Alden Karotkin, referred us to Eagle Self Storage. We had never used storage units before and had NO idea how to determine the number and types of units we needed for storing contents from a 7K square foot home for an indefinite amount of time. Terri was SO patient and helpful […]

I’m so glad we chose

I’m so glad we chose Eagle Self Storage for our storage needs. We have stored in the facility for 18 months, and it is clean, safe, and well-lit. Our unit is climate-controlled and easy to access. Beyond anything, the staff is always professional and helpful!

Exceptional

I have been renting space at Eagle Self Storage for over 15 years and I would not want to store anywhere else. It is clean, well-lit, climate-controlled and safe. The managers are very likeable, helpful, accommodating people. My friends who have storage somewhere else tell me that they have never seen a place this well-kept.

Clean and Secure

I have been using this storage company for about 3 years. I could not be happier with how they do business. Terri is a gem! She’s so helpful and takes good care of her people. All of our stuff in our unit looks great. The area is clean and the security system is on point. […]

Clean and Safe…

I love the fact that I don’t feel “frightened” when I move stuff in and out. I looked at quite a few of these places and am glad I chose this one for my public storage option.
